When people try dry shampoo for the first time, they often say “how did I not know about this before?” or “this is the absolute life-saver I wish I’d known about years ago!”. We get it. What we didn’t realise was that people hated washing their hair so much. So how does dry shampoo work you ask? Well, dry shampoo powders do its job by absorbing the oils your scalp produces to prolong the time needed between wet washes. This means you get to save time and money by spending less time in the shower (woohoo!). While using a dry shampoo powder in between wet washes, we predict you’ll wash your hair half as much as you used to. Not to mention the endless hours some of us spend drying and styling our hair. Can we get an AMEN? Now the real question is, how will you spend all the extra time you’ve got on your hands?
Because we like things au natural, we made our dry shampoo powder formula with a blend of food-based powders and made them extra fine to work better at absorbing oils. Application is super easy with our handy, little shaker bottle delivery system to get the product right where you need it. No more hiding dirty hair under a hat! Using natural ingredients makes it gentle on the scalp, cause that’s how we roll, and even though it’s a white powder, it’s good to go for all hair types. Our dry shampoo powder also comes with our yummy signature MooGoo smell, giving you a quick refreshment no matter what you’ve been up to. It also adds a bit of volume to the hair you never had before making this a double-win situation. Now kick the (aerosol) can and get shakin’.
Many of us at MooGoo HQ are avid dry shampoo users so we love it, if you ask us, this is the best dry shampoo ever but we’re probably biased. But we’re particularly (that is a pun that may dawn on you later) concerned when using the aerosol spray-on types. Any fine aerosol particles (ta-da!) entering the lungs isn’t healthy over time, so spraying them around the head and face is something we’re not cool with. Aerosol ingredients typically contain volatile hydrocarbons, such as propane, n-butane and isobutene, dimethyl ether (DME), methyl ethyl ether and a whole bunch of other big words we don’t like. These aerosols can coat the scalp causing irritation and itchiness. No one likes an itchy head.

FAQ
How does dry shampoo work?
Dry shampoo powders do their job by absorbing the oils your scalp produces to prolong the time needed between wet washes. This means you get to save time and money by spending less time in the shower (woohoo!). While using a dry shampoo powder in between wet washes, we predict you’ll wash your hair half as much as you used to. Not to mention the endless hours some of us spend drying and styling our hair.
Why do we only make one dry shampoo? I’ve got dark hair.
Many dry shampoos are geared toward a specific hair colour, but in our opinion, that’s all a bit complicated, especially since balayage is all the rage these days. We also avoid using colouring ingredients to give you the most natural product we can, so even though it’s a white powder, it’s good for all hair types. If your hair is looking a little white when you apply it and that’s not the look you’re going for, you’ve either used too much or you haven’t rubbed it in properly. Simply flip your hair over and give your scalp and hair a good rub down and you should be good to go. Brushing it through your hair also helps with even distribution.
What’s the best way to apply dry shampoo?
If you’re looking for quick instructions, simply separate your hair into sections and gently shake powder out of the bottle to cover the hair closest to your scalp. Apply all over or target the area around the face because they tend to get oiliest the quickest and can use the added boost of volume. Once the product has been applied, use fingertips to rub the powder in making sure to spread it evenly and disperse any clumps created when the powder mixes with the oils of your hair. It’ll feel like a nice head massage too so take your time if you have some. Repeat as required. Our favourite dry shampoo expert tip is to apply before bed and wake up fresh, fabulous and ready to go.
Can I use your dry shampoo if I have scalp issues?
Yes, absolutely, but we recommend only using ones in powder form. Aerosol ingredients can coat the scalp causing further irritation and itchiness, not to mention they aren’t great for the lungs. Coating the scalp with synthetic ingredients is probably not going to be the best thing to help with any scalp issues you’re dealing with and will probably lead to itchiness; no one likes an itchy head. If you have a very dry scalp, we recommend using dry shampoo powders sparingly as they do absorb oils from the hair and scalp, and our natural oils do help keep our scalp hydrated.
I have dry/oily hair. Do you have a dry shampoo powder for that?
Oily hair requires a higher concentration of cleansers than dry hair because more oils need to be absorbed. Simply vary the amount of dry shampoo powder you use based on how oily your hair is. If your hair tends to be dry, sprinkle the dry shampoo powder as close to the scalp as you can. If dry ends are an issue, we love our Protein Shot Leave-In Hair Conditioner to keep strand smooth all day, every day.
How do I keep my head and hair healthy in between dry washes?
The best way to keep your hair healthy in between dry shampoo powder washes is to use gentle, scalp-friendly shampoos and conditioners when you wet wash.
‘Fragrance’ is listed as one of the ingredients in this product. What does this mean?
When we first started making products, we used a blend of essentials oils to give them a lovely fragrance. But many people have severe reactions and allergies to them, even in small amounts. As a result, and because we make products for people with sensitive skin, we took them out of most products. Instead, we helped to develop a special kind of fragrant oil, whereby each component in it is less than the EU allergy threshold. This is how we can have a pleasant-smelling product without the reactions. The scents we use are proprietary blends from the company we get them from, and we’ve had no reactions since we made the switch. Also, of course, it is free from phthalates, which is the main concern in fragrances.
